New readings 2018/19

Creative writing workshop

The programme segment called New Readings aims to encourage and promote young and up-and-coming playwrights. The second edition of the creative laboratory, mentored by Simona Hamer, included Evelin Bizjak, Urša Majcen, Kaja Novosel, Eva Kučera Šmon and Ana Zupan. Five playscripts, diverse in terms of content and genre, originating from the opening cue, the word image, will be presented in the format of stage reading, followed by a post-show talk with the authors.

New Readings is a platform for developing and presenting contemporary (Slovenian) plays in the format of staged readings. The platform is aimed at the youngest generation of professional playwrights selected by a public call.  

Simona Hamer is a dramaturg and playwright, a long-time member of Preglej, and has authored over a dozen plays and stage adaptations and worked on many original theatre projects. In 2017, her play Postcards, or Fear is Hollow Inside and Empty Outside won the national Slavko Grum Award for best new play.
