Boris Mihalj

Description

Boris Mihalj completed the Secondary Veterinary School and studied stage acting at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television, University of Ljubljana in the class of Professors Mile Korun and Matjaž Zupančič. Having completed his studies, he enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and graduated in the class of Professor Umberta Borella. In 1996 he joined the SNT Nova Gorica where he worked until 2001 when he joined the Slovene Permanent Theatre ensemble in Trieste for one season. He has been a member of the SNT Drama Ljubljana resident ensemble since 2004. In 2008 he defended his doctoral thesis Teichoscopy. Use of dramaturgical technique in visual arts (thesis supervision by Professor Jure Mikuž) at the AMEU – Institutum Studiorum Humanitatis and obtained a doctoral degree in Historical Anthropology. In 2014, he obtained a doctoral degree in Art History at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, supervised by Professor Tine Germ, with a thesis The Human Back and the Back Act in Works of Caspar David Friedrich. He is currently involved in his third doctoral studies at the Postgraduate School ZRC SAZU preparing a thesis on How to think acting. His passion for research is actively put into action in his profession, in classical and contemporary drama repertoires, independent theatre projects and in films. He has created over eighty roles. Since 2019 he has been the chairman of the Slovenian Association of Dramatic Artists.
