The Road to Drama

The Road to Drama is a language and cultural programme created to support the integration of foreigners living in Slovenia into the country’s cultural and social life. It introduces the Slovenian language through the lens of culture and theatre.

The programme is developed in collaboration with two Slovenian language teachers who work closely with Drama’s theatre pedagogue and specialize in teaching Slovenian to foreigners. The main purpose of the programme is to encourage the integration of foreigners living in Slovenia into the cultural and social life of Slovenia and to present the Slovenian language through culture and theatre. The Road to Drama builds on the previous Drama Paket programme, which ran during the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.

For many foreigners learning Slovenian, following a theatre performance in Slovenian can be too challenging. This programme aims to bridge that gap—familiarizing participants with Slovenian culture, helping them become confident, active, and critical theatre-goers, and encouraging them to express their thoughts and reflections in Slovenian.

Participants attend selected performances, but the heart of the programme lies in its rich, hands-on activities: post-show discussions, theatre workshops, backstage tours, group play readings, conversations based on articles from theatre programmes, and meetings with theatre professionals. All workshops and discussions are conducted in Slovenian, with at least one language teacher present at every event. Performance discussions are led by a theatre pedagogue and dramaturge, who also take part in the group readings, while theatre workshops are designed and led by a team including a theatre director, an improviser, a language coach, and a theatre pedagogue.
