Maja Končar studied stage acting at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television, University of Ljubljana in the class of Professors Kristijan Muck and Dušan Mlakar. During her studies she appeared in the Ljubljana City Theatre; she has been a member of the SNT Drama Ljubljana resident ensemble since 1989. She excels in classical and contemporary drama repertoires and is remarkably convincing in comic and grotesque roles and when playing socially marginalised characters. She has appeared as guest at the Mini Theatre and in Cankarjev dom and created a variety of radio roles. She also acts in film and television, which has brought her wider recognition. Recently, she has been intensely involved in audio projects, such as the Drama Library for Vulnerable Groups and Audio plays.
