Social and Sociable:

Bratko Bibič on the Slovenian culture through the prism of the accordion

The accordion is one of the world’s most widely used and popular musical instruments, present in almost all musical genres. Together with some of the genres of folk music the accordion has also become an important symbol, with which, different generations of Slovenians, passively or actively, positively or negatively, identify. The accordion has had a similar role in other cultures and societies. In his book Accordian for Butalci, Bratko Bibič follows the accordion through the labyrinths of changing social, cultural, artistic and musical circumstances, which are closely connected to the variety of historical and current musical and accordion practices. The accordion is often found where least expected.

The accordion will be found in the Drama Café, as Bratko Bibič will prepare a surprise musical performance. Boštjan Narat will talk to the author about the book Accordion for Butalci.

Join us on Wednesday, 17 December, at 18:00 in the Drama Café. Tickets (2€) for the event organized by SNT Drama Ljubljana and Beletrina are available at the Drama box office.
