Social and Sociable

In conversation with Jernej Lorenci and Mladen Dolar

A scandal, caused in 1896 by the premiere of Ubu the King, written by Alfred Jarry, aged 23, divided the audience, and foretold unexpectedly the developments in the 20th, and obviously also in the 21st century, both in art and in social life. In January 2016, the staging of Ubu the King after the motifs of Ubu the King, based on the collected works of Ubu the King collective, and directed by Jernej Lorenci, divided the audience. Did the production foresee the events that we are witnessing a year later? Whatever the answer, it is an obvious fact that every period has its his ruthless, greedy, gluttonous, and cowardly Papa Ubu. Contemporary Ubus shaping a destiny of the world »here and now« will be discussed by director Jernej Lorenci and philosopher dr. Mladen Dolar in conversation with Igor Samobor, the SNT Drama Ljubljana artistic and managing director.

Join us on Thursday, 30 March at 18.00 on the Main Stage. Tickets (5€) for the event are available at the Drama Box Office. No admission fee for members of Drama Club, Teen Club and Hamlet Club.
